Moab Jeep Safari 2010

Now that Chris has his Jeep how he wants it (well it's about 75% right now), we decided it was time to test it out!! That meant MOAB!! So we signed up for the 2010 Moab Easter Jeep Safari. We've actually ran the safari quite a few times. My first run was in 1991 with my parents and Chris ran it a few times when we first started dating. We took the Jeep down twice last year, but now that it's lifted we decided to try the safari. They are always so much fun!

We left the girls with my sisters for the week and headed down in the Motor home. I made reservations back in January and most places were already booked. We were lucky to get in where we did!!

I don't know why he looks like a tough guy in this picture. We were actually having a great night out on the town when I snapped this!Dinner at Zax. It was nice to get out, just the two of us.On Thursday we signed up to do METAL MASHER. It was such a fun trail and the trail leaders were great. They told us all "you want to try an obstacle, we'll guide you or we'll winch you. But have fun in trying!"

This is the line up at the start. That's the trail leader in the red jacket on the left.View from the top of the trail. Beautiful!Line up for WIDOW MAKER

Once you got to this point, the trail leader wouldn't let you turn around. He said "it will take you too long to bypass than it will to just winch you up"

(Pedro, Chris, Big Red (the one armed driver) and another Jeep)Even our trail leader attempted WIDOW MAKERThis is Chris standing in front of WIDOW MAKER. It's about a 12-14ft climb!! This is Chris getting strapped to go up WIDOW MAKER!!
They strapped all the Jeeps so you don't tip back.
There is a winch mount actually installed IN THE ROCK just above the trail. Apparently 90% of the time you'll need a winch on this obstacle. We made friends with Pedro from Arizona.
See, he got strapped too!
And he had lockers!!This picture reminds me of a child's playground. All the Jeeps just going crazy and climbing whatever comes in front of them!On Friday Chris and I drove out to Canyonlands National Park and the Needles Overlook.
It was so beautiful and such a nice day. After we drove up to the start of ELEPHANT HILL.
The very first part of the trail is a nasty, tight, rocky climb.
No need to go any further once you've done that!!

Chris let me drive around a little bit. He actually made me climb some hills I would not have ever dared to climb. I'm a wuss at stuff like this. I leave the driving for him. I trust him.

On BIG SATURDAY we signed up to do HELL'S REVENGE.

Josh and Virgina drove down on Friday night and spent the rest of the weekend with us. We kept teasing Chris that he had his 2 wives and his girlfriend (Josh) with him. Josh & Chris have what we like to call a "bromance" with each other.

The trail leaders on this run kinda sucked. They didn't encourage you to do anything, they bypassed everything and even drove right on past one of the biggest obstacles. Not to mention we stopped for the dumbest reasons and wasted a lot of time.

Most of the trail was like this. Very steep climbs up slick rock.Chris climbing one of the HOT TUBSThis clown (not in our group) actually rolled his Jeep in the big hot tub. He broke his back axle and there were a lot of park cops circling up top for him. The bottom of the hole was filled with water and his Jeep spilled oil in it and the guys were covered in it. No one was hurt, which is good, but I'm sure they got a nice little fine!Crazy Jeepers climbing HELL'S GATEThis is the view for THE ESCALATOR

We saw a lot of this while watching Jeeps climb THE ESCALATOR

This Jeep was built exactly like Chris's. So when this guy "attempted" THE ESCALATOR this answered Perk's question of "would my Jeep make it?" The answer was clearly NO. Saturday night we went to dinner at Eddie McStiff's.
Josh and Virginia. Our Jeeping friends.

Next time Josh, you'll have to bring your Jeep!!
